Solar Flare activity releases higher than normal rays of electromagnetic (EM) energy from the core of the sun which is then sent out into space. Remember, the sun is a ball and when rays are sent out from its round surface they head out in a direction based on the point on the surface of the sun from which they originated. When the earth is occasionally in the direct path of the "rays" that are sent out, they affect the earth from subtle to pretty intense ways.
Experiencing elevated levels of the suns electromagnetism affects all human and animal behavior including all mental, emotional and physical states. For those who are sensitive to their internal emotional energy, they will feel these fluctuations in EM energy regularly and with periods of elevated emotions to outright discomfort. They can be subject to greater bouts of feeling nervous, anxious, worrisome, irritable, and/or overwhelmed by the demands of their lives. Also, short term memory loss, nausea, queasiness, prolonged headaches, frustration, and anger can arise and leave you questioning your overall health. Please pass the aspirin, thank you. Next, throw in the fact for many years there has been a constant lessening of the earths protective Ozone layer, so we've become even more susceptible to increased EM activity. Scientists have proven that "spikes" in EM activity affects our bodies Central Nervous System meaning all brain activity including our equilibrium.
Those who feel they are not as sensitive to their internal energy because they are so to speak "tougher skinned" will also start to feel these symptoms as Sun Spot / Flare Activity is expected to increase and peak in the next few years. Flare activity is expected to peak in 2012 (that date keeps coming up), then gradually decline in intensity. That is if a "normal" Solar Cycle occurs. A greater than normal cycle will probably keep doctors and emergency rooms quite busy and pharmaceutical companies in high profits.

Maintaining our mental and physical health is one of the most important considerations we need to keep in mind at this time. After returning from the Global Coherence article I would like to suggest your taking some time while on my site to read the 'To Your Health' pages for suggestions in maintaining a healthy immune system. But for now, back to more planetary information.
Elevated EM levels during a very active cycle also create problems for all forms of electronic communications including radio transmissions, phone connections, the Internet and computers. In 1859 an intense Solar Flare event lasted eight days. It was was labeled as the Carrington event after Richard Carrington the British astronomer who first noted the source. That event caused magnetic blasts from intense solar activity to induce elevated currents in telegraph lines in the U.S. and parts of Europe, starting fires in transmission lines and damaging equipment, what little of equipment there was in existence at that time. Recently in 1989, intense Solar Flare activity blew transformers in the power grid and caused a blackout in 17% of Quebec, Canada. In the northeast United States, a power transformer at a nuclear power station in New Jersey was burned out during that same period. For a number of years now electrical energy companies around the world have monitored and adjusted their power outputs based on solar flare activity in an attempt to avoid such problems on their grids during a solar cycle with normal activity.
A number of satellites also are thought to have failed from exposure to high-energy blasts from solar activity and measures are now taken to deflect direct hits to the equipment. In October of 2003, solar flares destroyed a Japanese communications satellite. So far there is not much information available addressing the tens of millions of home computers and how to protect them in the event of an even bigger hit from a solar storm. Experts agree that with an intense flare event and the short time it takes to reach earth there may not be much anyone can do to protect our electrical systems from severe damage. So I don't believe that wrapping your hard drive in tin foil is going to save your baby pictures. A Faraday cage or tent is believed to be the appropriate device for this job.
