 Don't forget the theory of Nibiru aka Eris the dwarf planet who is believed to be whizzing our way and whose next effects upon us are unknown. The Sumerian civilization called the planet "Nibiru the winged planet" because it appeared to have red gaseous wings and a long red tail as it traveled through space. The first projected Earth crossing orbit of Nibiru/Eris is said to be in the Fall of 2009. If this occurs, a tail of dust will be in Earth's orbital path and we may pass right through it.
 Then there is also the scientifically accepted information that a Galactic Alignment is not only taking place but we are in the alignment zone right now and will continue to be for some time. Our sun and solar system travels all the way around the Milky Way Galaxy every 226 million years. During our journey, the sun and our solar system oscillates above and below an imaginary line through a dense area of our disk shaped galaxy which astronomers call the "plane of the galaxy" or "galactic plane". Some astronomers say that this up and down movement crosses the plane every 33 years. Other astronomers give a figure of 27 - 36 million years, so there is just a small discrepancy among the experts. One hypothesis is that this crossing of the galactic plane coincides with our encountering the dense matter which takes the form of comets and asteroids which is responsible for polar shifts due to the intense natural magnetic forces of the Universe.  This area is also known as the "Dark Rift". It has been suggested that our passage through this area previously led to a disturbance of comets in the Oort Cloud which may have provided showers of comets in the inner Solar System. These impact pulses, along with other impactors, may be responsible for the major extinctions in earth history. This is known as the Shiva Hypothesis. There has been a rash of "fireballs" entering our atmosphere over the last few months. I personally saw one burn up over Colorado in the fall of 2008 and it was an incredible sight to witness. Records of these and their video images can be viewed at the space weather link below. Recently, NASA issued a statement saying they were halting the release of fireball information to the public. Hmmmmm.

Mayan records have a word or two concerning the galactic alignment concept. Their legend states that in our Galaxy there are dark formations of interstellar dust which they called the "Black Road" aka "Dark Rift". They believed this area is a sign of the location where the Sun will align with the center of the Galaxy and this would create a portal to other worlds when sunlight enters this rift in 2012 at the end of their calendar.
Over last eight or so years the Grand Elder of the Mayans, Don Alejandro, also known as 'Wondering Wolf', was invited to the 'Gathering of One'. In 2008 it addressed Indigenous Prophecies of The Golden Age of Peace, The Coming of the Fifth World and the Entering the Ages of Light. 'Wandering Wolf' is considered by many to be on a par with the Dali Lama. Here is some of what he said at that time.
"We are living in the Shift of the Ages. Every 5200 years we come to this point where the planet earth becomes dark for a period of 60 to 70 days, we can not see the sun, Why? Because the science of the Mayan astronomers learned that the earth was always going around the sun but now we are getting closer until we enter the central magnetic axis. There is a great axis above the planet earth that makes all the stars and the planets move. And so while the earth passes through that axis, we can not see the rays of the sun. We are inside. Once the earth re-emerges from the axis we will then be able to see the 'New Sun'. But what I can not tell you is if it is actually the same sun or if it is a different sun.
Many people take advantage of the Mayan Calendar, scaring our people with threatening words where it says that the world will be ending, that in the year 2012 the world will end. So in this sense that I tell you to all my brothers do not be afraid. The sun will go dark, the planet earth will not see the sun, but we should understand, it is like the New Year. The old year ended today December 31st . . tomorrow January 1st, Happy New Year. This is what we should do when the day comes. We do not have a date to say that it is going to be the 12th of December, it could be 2015, 2020 or further on. We are lost to the correct date. The Maya during the nights of darkness never lose their fire which will be the torch that illuminates the long night before the New Sun comes."

The work of Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe, noted Professor and Director of the Cardiff Centre for Astrobiology, University of Glamorgan, UK is acknowledged as a leading expert on interstellar material and the origins of life. He has made many important contributions in these fields, publishing over 350 papers in major scientific journals. In 1974 he first proposed the theory that dust in interstellar space and in comets was largely organic and in some instances carried molecules which triggered viruses, a theory that has now been vindicated.
"Influenza is known to appear in winter, with January and February usually being the worst months for residents in northern temperate latitudes, six months later in the southern hemisphere. Why? Because in temperate latitudes it is in the winter months that exceptionally cold air from the earths stratosphere comes down to the ground level, and this cold air carries either the virus itself or a trigger for it reaches ground-level patchily. Occasionally it can arrive at the same time at widely separated places like Boston and Bombay, not requiring any human to go from one place to the other to transfer the virus."
"We believe the advice to stay put in a safe place is better than a so-called influenza shot. All a shot can do at best is to give you protection against last year's variety of influenza. It will not give you protection against a new variety, and all the "bad" forms of influenza are new."
"Sunspot numbers give a measure of high-energy activity at the sun's surface, the peak numbers corresponding with frequent solar flares and the emissions of charged particles that reach the earth. Such activity on the sun is known to result in geomagnetic storms, ionospheric disturbances that interfere with radio communications, and most spectacularly the production of bright auroral displays, the latter being caused by the streaming of charged particles from the sun moving along magnetic field lines that connect the sun and the earth. Peaks of solar activity will undoubtedly assist in the descent of charged molecular aggregates (including viruses) from the stratosphere to the ground level. Thus according to our present point of view serious influenza epidemics would follow such peaks, provided the culprit molecular aggregates were recently dispersed in the stratosphere from cometary meteor streams. With a more or less regular occurrence of such meteor showers the limiting condition may then be seen as the intensity of solar activity, leading naturally to coincidences between the timings of pandemics or major epidemics and sunspot peaks."
Think of Professor Wickramasinghe's work in this way. A car is traveling down a narrow country road with farmers green fields on each side of the road. It is just after sunset and every bug (interstellar dust) wants to hover over the pavement for warmth (earths path). As your car (earth) speeds down the road your windshield gets covered with examples of splattered bug juice (organic cosmic molecular particles). So, on our celestial path we are collecting samples of cosmic particles. Much of it burns up on entry to our atmosphere but in the right conditions we are getting our fair share of cosmic seeds. Or, you can think of the Universe as a sort of Tinker Bell character, waving her magic wand across earths path, perhaps delivering the next upgrade to our genetic code or new microbes finding a home on this planet. It's a toss of the cosmic dice. When Nibiru or what ever other civilizations have called it, previously made near passes, that civilization shortly after recorded major advancements in intelligence, science and philosophy. And on other occasions have ended the living civilization of that era. If history repeats itself, as we know it does, we all may have an opportunity to catapult our lives into more powerful states of self-awareness, spiritual enlightenment and personal empowerment on this playground we call earth. But we need to be mentally and spiritually prepared to accept our new abilities and break from the past primitive fear based belief systems. Abandoning our induced limitations of traditional beliefs will no longer constrain humankind.

The meaning of the word influenza takes on a whole new significance when we consider the mediaeval Latin word influentia signifying "influence of the stars". Just something to think about while you lie in bed at night ready to doze off. The conditions in the Universe are ready for a "perfect storm" and we all have a front row seat. (Read the section "To D or Not To D" for more about our immune system.)
Yes, there is even more. In a report released on December 18, 2008 NASA scientists revealed that the THEMIS spacecraft discovered a significant breach in the earth's protective Magnetosphere which was 10 times larger  than anything previously thought to exist. Thank our lucky stars this was during a lull in solar flare activity. This was a significant new finding in the space community. The hole was four times the size of earth and allowed an influx number of solar particles as never seen before. This breach was observed to open and close on its own will. Perhaps the earth is flexing its muscles in response to our treatment of its hospitality. During Solar Flare Activity and Solar Storms, the sun sends out charged particles (coronal mass ejections) in the form of powerful solar winds at up to 1 million mph. As Solar Cycle 24 is expected to become much more active, the electromagnetic storms are expected to be significantly stronger than we have been seen in many years. The data from THEMIS will be very interesting to follow in the months and years to come.

The earth is changing, this there is no denying. By centering and spiritually grounding ourselves we can come to better adjust to these changes and live a more fulfilling and enlightened life. Recognizing, understanding and developing all that is available to us is to grow into the knowingness that we are not just helpless passengers on earth but do have a choice in how we meet our future.
